Port Huron Flags News Release
(PORT HURON, MICH.) - The Port Huron Flags lost their second consecutive game against the Flint Generals, this time at McMorran Arena, by the final score of 3-1.
Both teams looked aggressive in the first period, as 9 penalties were handed out. At 5:04, Ryan Markham worked his magic, scoring yet another shorthanded goal on a Flint power play, assisted by Mark Cadotte. The Flags drew first blood, despite being outshot by Flint, 15-10.
Flint tied it up in the second, on a power play goal that resulted from a holding call on Shayne Tomlinson. Mike Zbriger, who leads the Generals in scoring, sent the puck past Noah Ruden at 9:32, assisted by Jan Jas and Jan Eriksson. Several minutes later, Jeremy Tucker was penalized for roughing, setting up the second Flint power play goal of the night. Terry Marchant, on assists from Jan Jas and Justin Kinnunen, beat Ruden on a shot from the right circle at 11:41. Then, at 17:47, pure pandemonium erupted, in traditional Port Huron-Flint style. When everything was sorted out, Flint's Jason Selleke was handed a 2-minute minor for roughing and a 5-minute major for fighting Robert Snowball, who received the same penalties. Dion Hyman was handed a 4-minute double minor for attempting to spear, which would carry over into the third. Port Huron's 14 shots on goal bested Flint's 13.
The third period moved quickly, with just a handful of penalties across the board. Port Huron played hard with six men on the ice for the last minute, but could not come away with the victory. Flint posted 8 shots on goal in the third, while Port Huron recorded 13.
AT&T's 1st, 2nd and 3rd Stars of the Game were awarded to Marchant, Jas and Selleke, respectively. Tomorrow night, the Flags suit up against the Bloomington PrairieThunder, when former teammates Ryan Gillis, Jeff Cameron and Brad Bonello return to McMorran for the first time on the visitors' bench. Puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
SCHOOL NIGHT: Next Wednesday, show your student ID at the door to receive $3 off your ticket! The ever popular Turkey Bowling will be back, as the Flags celebrate Thanksgiving on the ice. To book a student group of 15 or more, and receive $4 off each ticket, call the front office.
