Kohn Wins BC Powder Relief Pitcher of the Month
May 3, 2019 - Southern League (SL1)
Jackson Generals News Release
Jackson, Tenn. - The Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs announced this week that Jackson Generals right-hander Michael Kohn, a native of Camden, South Carolina, has earned the BC® Powder Relief Pitcher of the Month award for his April 2019 performance. Kohn, a first-year General, has yet to allow a run over his first ten appearances in 2019.
After not pitching at all in 2018 due to injury, Kohn has returned to form with a league-leading six saves out of the gate in 2019. He was the only Southern League reliever to appear ten times in April without allowing a run, and he was one of only six relievers to record 20 or more strikeouts in that span (21 for Kohn, specifically). He has held opponents to a .081 batting average, best among Southern League relievers, and he is one of just two bullpen arms with an opponents' batting average under .100 and a walks-and-hits-per-inning-pitched rate under 1.00 (0.77).
Kohn, a 32-year-old College of Charleston alum, had never pitched in the Southern League prior to 2019. A former 13th round pick by the Los Angeles Angels, Kohn owns a 3.52 ERA in 132 Major League Baseball appearances with the Angels and the Atlanta Braves. Kohn (pronounced like "con") also owns a 2.61 ERA in 223 Minor League Baseball appearances. He's the second consecutive Generals pitcher to win Relief Pitcher of the Month, following Kevin Ginkel's honor in August 2018.
The Southern League - BC® Relief Pitcher of the Month is presented by BC® Powder, a well-known brand throughout the Southeast and the Official Pain Reliever of the Southern League. The award is given to the league's most outstanding relief pitcher over the past month based on both statistical success and situational prowess.
In 1906, at their pharmacy in Durham, NC, Germain Bernard and C.T. Council formulated a new, effective pain reliever which quickly developed a loyal customer following of hardworking Americans who needed fast relief from their rough aches and pains. Over 100 years and millions of folks later, BC® Powder is still bringing speedy relief and showing pain who's boss. BC® Powder is available in five varieties: Original, Arthritis, Cherry, Sinus Pain, and new Daytime Cough & Cold.
