Kobi Simmons Takes Top Spot as All-Time Leading Scorer
March 21, 2023 - NBA G League (G League)
Greensboro Swarm News Release
(GREENSBORO, NC) -- Kobi Simmons became the Greensboro Swarm's all-time leading scorer in a 129-116 loss to the Capital City Go-Go at the Novant Health Fieldhouse. The Swarm, the NBA G League affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets, fall to 10-20 on the season while the Go-Go (Washington Wizards affiliate) improve to 17-13.
Simmons' 22 points in the contest saw him surpass Joe Chealey as the organization's all-time leading scorer with 1473 points. Simmons joined Greensboro in the 2019-20 NBA G League season and averaged 17.4 points in 37 appearances. After a year away from the team in 2021-22, Simmons was welcomed back to the Swarm this season where he is averaging 17.3 points per game.
Entering Tuesday's contest, Greensboro looked to even the season series between the two squads. In their last meeting, the Go-Go prevailed with a 131-124 overtime victory on Dec. 31.
In the early minutes of the contest both teams saw offensive runs swing in their advantage. The Swarm would jump out to a six-point lead only to see the Go-Go counter with a seven-point lead of their own.
Capital City's two-way players, Jay Huff and Quentin Jackson, were the driving forces to propel the Go-Go to a commanding lead in the first half. At the halftime break, Jackson and Greensboro's Trevon Scott led all scorers with 18 points.
Despite trailing by as many as 21 points in the second half, the Swarm surmounted a fourth quarter charge to cut the lead to six points, the closest the game had been since the opening quarter. However, it was not enough as Capital City was able to keep Greensboro at bay in the closing minutes.
In addition to Simmons' historic night, the Swarm saw four additional players with double-digit point performances: Trevon Scott (25), Isaiah Whaley (19), Theo Maledon (17) and Xavier Sneed (11).
Capital City saw four players with 20-plus point performances: Jackson (30, a new season high), Huff (29, a new season high), Jules Benard (22) and Devon Dotson (21). Dotson earned a double-double with 13 assists respectfully.
The Swarm will be back in action against Raptors 905 on Friday, March 24 at the Novant Fieldhouse starting at 7 pm. -gsoswarm.com- About the Greensboro Swarm The Greensboro Swarm are the NBA G League affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets.
