Know Your Opponent: North Carolina Courage
May 31, 2019 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL)
Orlando Pride News Release
Key Transactions
Earlier this month, the Courage added Shannon Horgan and Peyton Perea to the team on national team replacement contracts as four of their players - Abby Dahlkemper, Crystal Dunn, Jessica McDonald and Sam Mewis - were named to the U.S. Women's National Team World Cup roster for the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup in France this summer. Additionally, the Courage are without three other players in Stephanie Labbe (Canada), Debinha (Brazil) and Abby Erceg (New Zealand).
Recent Form
The Courage have had a good start to the season with a 2-2-3 (9 points) overall record, but have only picked up two points from a possible 12 in their last four games. NC enters the matchup with the Pride looking to bounce back from a 2-1 loss on Monday to Reign FC.
Who's Hot
The Courage are tied for first in the NWSL in goals scored with 13 this season through seven games. Despite the absence of leading goalscorer Crystal Dunn, the Courage attack still employs four other players who have at least one goal apiece, including Lynn Williams who has three this season.
Head-to-Head
The Pride hold a 2-5-0 record historically against the Courage and have lost their last four matchups with the defending champions. In the teams' last meeting, North Carolina won 5-0 at WakeMed Soccer Park earlier this season.
Rasmussen College Fun Fact
When the Courage suffered their first loss of the 2019 season to Chicago on May 12, this served as their first loss since June 16, 2018, when they fell 1-0 to the Utah Royals. That loss was the only for the Courage in 2018, who went on to earn a result in every match after that on their way to winning the 2018 NWSL Championship.
