Know Your Opponent | Philadelphia Union
July 6, 2019 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Orlando City SC News Release
City is back facing Philadelphia for the second time in four days after dropping the first match on Wednesday at home. Here is what you need to know about our East rivals:
Key Transactions
The Union shook up their roster a bit from last season by parting with a few key faces from recent seasons. First off, Borek Dockal's loan expired. Dockal led MLS with 18 assists last season. Philly also parted with notables CJ Sapong, Keegan Rosenberry, David Accam and Derrick Jones.
Philly made a rare splash in the offseason by signing Mexican International Marco Fabian to replace Dockal. You would think he'd be the most influential signing so far for the Union but the biggest signing of their offseason has probably been the box-to-box midfielder Jamiro Monteiro who was acquired on loan from FC Metz.
Philly has also made recent moves in adding forward Andrew Wooten from SV Sandhausen and then signing former City defender RJ Allen.
Who's Hot
You could argue the whole team is hot since Philly is at the top of the East but there are three main guys to watch. Ilsinho has been with the Union for four seasons but through 16 games in 2019 he's arguably having his best season being utilized mostly as a super sub off the bench. The Brazilian playmaker has four goals and leads the team with six assists. Another one to watch is Jamiro Monteiro who was previously mentioned above. He has a motor in the midfield and has contributed four goals tied for second best on the team with Ilsinho and is second in assists with five. At the forward spot, Kacper Przybylko leads the team with eight goals in 13 appearances (two of which came against City on Wednesday).
Recent Form
The Union topped City 3-1 bringing them to 3-2-1 in their last six matches.
Head-to-head
City went 1-1-1 last year against the Union across all competitions. The loss came in July with the Union knocking City out of the Open Cup in Philadelphia.
Rasmussen College Fun Fact
The Philadelphia Union now have two former Orlando City defenders after the acquisition of RJ Allen on Tuesday. The other familiar face, Aurelien Collin.
