Durham Bulls News Release
Durham NC - A solo blast in the top of the eighth inning by Ruben Rivera proved to be just what the Charlotte Knights needed to edge the Bulls 8-7 on Thursday night at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. With one out and the bases empty, Rivera sent a Juan Salas offering over the wall in left-center, breaking a 7-7 tie.
Bobby Smith led six Knights with multi-hit games, as he finished 2-4 with tow runs scored and his third home run of the season. Shawn Riggans led the Bulls' attack with a 3-4 night, including one run scored and three driven in. Joel Guzman homered in the second inning off LHP Heath Phillips, and has now homered in three consecutive games, all against Charlotte. The Bulls and Knights each had 13 hits in the game.
Jeff Farnsworth (7-3) picked up the win for the Knights, pitching two-thirds of an inning while allowing no runs on one hit and striking out one. Juan Salas (1-1) took his first loss of the season, going one inning while allowing one run on a Rivera home run, while striking out one. Boone Logan earned his eighth save of the season after pitching a scoreless ninth inning while striking out two.
Durham will continue homestand tomorrow night against the Indianapolis Indians, as RHP Jason Hammel (5-9) faces LHP Shane Youman (1-0) at 7:00 p.m. at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Tickets are available at the Durham Bulls Box office, by phone at (919) 956-BULL or online at www.durhambulls.com.
