Indianapolis cruises to 8-2 win over Louisville

INDIANAPOLIS -- Right-hander Ryan Vogelsong began Thursday night's contest with five perfect innings, while the Indianapolis offense hammered out 12 hits en route to an 8-2 win over Louisville at Victory Field.
The Indians improve to 63-54 on the season, while the Bats fall to 61-57 overall. Indianapolis moves back into sole possession of first place in the International League's West Division, one game ahead of Toledo.
Vogelsong (7.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 SO) improved to 2-4 with his first win since July 13. He retired 15 straight batters before Louisville RF Brandon Watson led off the sixth with a base on balls.
Indianapolis raced out to an 8-0 advantage, plating two runs in the first, three in the second, one in the fifth and two more in the sixth.
Tribe CF Mike Edwards opened the first with a single through the right side and scored on 2B Craig Stansberry's triple to left center. Stansberry then came plateward on LF Raul Gonzalez's RBI groundout.
The Indians used a pair of Louisville errors to plate three runs in the second. Stansberry highlighted the frame, driving in a run and scoring another.
The Indians pushed across one run in the fifth when 3B Yurendell de Caster walked, moved to third on SS Gookie Dawkins' double to right center and came plateward on Vogelsong's sacrifice fly to left.
Indianapolis closed out its scoring in the sixth when 1B Chris Richard belted his team-leading 12th home run of the season -- a two-run shot to right center.
Edwards (3-for-5, 2 R, 1 RBI) and Stansberry (3-for-5, 2 R, 2 RBI) combined to go 6-for-10 with 10 total bases, four runs and three RBI.
Louisville collected both of its runs in the seventh, but Indians RHP Scott Strickland (1.0 IP, 2 H) and RHP Jonah Bayliss (1.0 IP, 1 SO) combined for two scoreless innings of relief to preserve the win.
Bats LHP Mike Gosling (5.2 IP, 10 H, 6 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 SO) was pinned with the loss, falling to 4-6.
LF Norris Hopper registered Louisville's only multi-hit game, going 2-for-4.
Indianapolis returns to the road for five straight contests, beginning with Friday night's 7 p.m. affair at Durham. LHP Shane Youman is scheduled to start for the Indians, while RHP Jason Hammel is expected to get the nod for the Bulls.
The game will be carried by ESPN-950 AM and IndyIndians.com as Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley have the call. Friday's pre-game show begins at 6:40 p.m.
