Charlotte Knights News Release
FORT MILL, S.C. - August 12, 2009 - It seemed like déjà vu all over again between Charlotte and Pawtucket with the Red Sox seizing the lead early-but this time the Knights would prevail in a 6-2 win.
The 1st inning saw most of the action, as Pawtucket scored on a bases loaded walk and a fielder's choice for a 2-0 lead. The Knights struck back in the bottom of the inning, beginning with Josh Kroger's RBI single. Two batters later, Michael Restovich followed suit with an RBI single to left tying the game at 2-2. Josh Fields' RBI double brought home Restovich giving the Knights the lead at 3-2. Charlotte scored two more runs increasing their lead to 5-2-all before their first out of the inning.
Knights starter Wes Whisler (8-10, 3.96) got off to a shaky start, but was able to fight his way back to get his eighth win of the season. He allowed only three hits, two earned runs and struck out two Red Sox players.
Former UNC-Charlotte pitcher, Adam Mills (0-1, 22.50) took the loss for Pawtucket.
Knights centerfielder Miguel Negron saw a great night offensively, going 4-5 and hitting his 13th double of the season.
The Knights and Red Sox conclude their series Thursday night. Jake Peavy (0-0, 0.00) is scheduled to make a rehab start for the Knights. Kris Johnson (3-12, 6.10) will start for Pawtucket. Game time is 7:15 p.m. Gates open at 6 p.m.
