
Iwamura To Rehab With Durham

Durham, NC - The Tampa Bay Rays today announced second baseman Akinori Iwamura will begin a rehab assignment with the Durham Bulls when the team returns to the Bull City on Friday, August 14th to take on the Scranton Wilkes-Barre Yankees. Iwamura has been on the disabled list with a knee injury since May 25th.
Iwamura, credited with having the first "Rayhawk" during Tampa Bay's post-season run in 2008, was injured while attempting to turn a double play against the Florida Marlins on May 22nd. He was batting .310 with 19 runs scored and 8 stolen bases at the time of the injury.
Iwamura has a career .283 batting average in three seasons with Tampa Bay while playing predominantly at third and second base. He played nine seasons with the Yakult Swallows in Japan posting a career .300 batting average with 188 Home Runs and 570 RBI.
