LOUISVILLE, KY- Charlotte scored six runs in the top of the fifth inning and held off Louisville the rest of the way to win in front of 7,643 fans at Louisville Slugger Field on Wednesday.
Bobby Livingston (0-4, 4.62) took the loss for Louisville, surrendering 10 hits and seven runs in four and two-thirds innings of work. Seven of those hits came in the fifth, including three straight doubles by the middle of Charlotte's order.
Lance Broadway (4-1, 3.30) went seven innings for Charlotte and earned the victory. Broadway gave up six hits and three runs, two of which were earned.
The Bats were able to add a couple of runs in the sixth, but couldn't mount a real rally. Mark Bellhorn homered to right field and Aaron Herr scored after reaching on an infield single, but it wasn't enough for Louisville. Charlotte added four more runs in the next frame to put the game out of reach.
Former Louisville Bat Kenny Kelly had another great game against his old team, going 3-for-5 with three singles and a run scored. Kelly hit the game-winning home run against the Bats last night. First baseman Craig Wilson also played well, going 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.
Tomorrow is Budweiser's "Game Time" Happy Hour at Louisville Slugger Field where fans can purchase $1 beers from 5:30-7:00 on the Overlook Deck. Louisville's RHP Tom Shearn (2-3, 3.98) is scheduled to start against Charlotte's RHP Charlie Haeger (2-8, 6.19) with game time set for 7:05.
