Charlotte Knights News Release
FORT MILL, S.C. - The Charlotte Knights ended a five game losing streak with a 6-2 win over the visiting Gwinnett Braves at Knights Stadium. The Knights' pitching staff were the heroes as they allowed just three hits in the win.
Charlotte's bullpen was forced to come up big after scheduled starting pitcher Doug Davis was a late scratch from the game. Right hander Deunte Heath made the spot start and allowed just one run off two hits in three innings of work. Jhonny Nunez earned the win with two scoreless innings of work.
The Knights offense pounded out 11 hits scoring six runs. The Knights put a three run fifth inning together to take the lead for good. After Jordan Danks doubled to lead off the inning, Drew Garcia doubled to score Danks. Following a Tyler Kuhn single, Eduardo Escobar hit a double of his own to left center field to put Charlotte ahead.
Danks would later add a two run home run in the eighth inning. The homer was his 13th of the season. Kuhn had a three hit game for Charlotte and both he and Danks scored two runs each.
Knights closer Josh Kinney pitched the final two innings to earn his 13th save of the season. Braves' starting pitcher Yohan Flande falls to 7-6 on the season.
The Knights finish the two game series with Gwinnett tomorrow at Knights Stadium with first pitch scheduled for 7:15 PM. RHP Dylan Axelrod will start for Charlotte and RHP Erik Cordier will start for the Braves.
