
Knights Exterminate Bats

FORT MILL, S.C. - June 23, 2009 - The Charlotte Knights picked up where they left off Monday, holding off their opponent for their third win in a row. The Knights knocked off Louisville 3-2 in the first game of the series with the Bats.
Knights 2B Eider Torres gave Charlotte the early lead with a solo home run in the bottom of the 3rd for a 1-0 lead. Wilson Betemit's sacrifice fly in the next inning made it 2-0. Down 3-0, the Bats made a brief attempt at a comeback when Darnell McDonald RBI single to left and then followed it up with a Brian Peterson solo home run in the top 8th. However, trailing 3-2, Knights reliever Adam Russell (S, 4) shut down the Bats for his fourth save of the season.
Knights starter Carlos Torres (6-4, 2.28) followed up his perfect game performance with his sixth win of the season.
The two teams continue their series. RHP Justin Lehr (9-2, 3.74) gets the start for the Bats, while the Knights will send RHP Justin Cassel (5-4, 2.38) to the mound. Game time is 7:15 PM.
