Durham Bulls News Release

Durham, NC - Fans of both the Durham Bulls and Boston Red Sox played a role in making Durham's final series in June one for the record books as both the Durham Bulls Athletic Park's single game and series paid attendance records were broken. With the Triangle's Red Sox Nation showing up to support the Triple-A Pawtucket team, the Durham Bulls Athletic Park burst at the seems as the Bulls reported a Friday night crowd of 11,300 and a series total of 40,339.

"It was an amazing weekend of support from sports fans throughout the Triangle," Durham Bulls General Manager Mike Birling said, "Red Sox Nation definitely showed up, but Bulls fans more than held their own."

Several other factors contributed to the paid attendance records. The series featured two fireworks shows, the annual Negro League Night celebration, an appearance at the ballpark by Nickelodeon's Dora the Explorer, and a marquee pitching match-up between Tampa Bay Rays All-Star Scott Kazmir and Boston Red Sox über-prospect Clay Buchholz.

"Hopefully it's a sign of good things to come," Birling continued, "the team is gone for nine days now, then return for our annual two-day Independence Day Celebration which should be another big series."

The Bulls Independence Day series is July 2nd and 3rd against their cross-state rivals, the Charlotte Knights. Both games start at 7:05 PM and both feature post-game fireworks shows. Tickets are available at www.durhambulls.com or by phone at (919) 956-BULL.
