Rochester Knighthawks News Release
Game Notes: The Rochester Knighthawks will play their second of five straight games against divisional opponents, as they travel to play the Minnesota Swarm on Saturday, January 21st at 8:00 p.m. at the Xcel Energy Center. The game will be webcast on the B2 Networks.
Last Week: Rochester enters the week with a 1-1 record and a share of third place in the East Division with Minnesota (1-1). The Knighthawks are coming off their first win of the season, 14-9, over the Toronto Rock at The Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester War Memorial on January 14th. The victory was the first for Head Coach Ed Comeau. The K-Hawks were led by a spirited effort from Shawn Evans, as the rookie scored a first-half hat trick to give the 'Hawks a 12-4 advantage. The Knighthawks also got a stellar effort in goal as Pat O'Toole stopped 20 shots in the first half en route to a 45-save effort. Rochester also got big nights from Shawn Williams (4+3), Mike Accursi (3+3) and John Grant (2+3).
Head-to-Head: The Knighthawks have a 1-2 all-time record against the Swarm, but won the last meeting, 20-11, on March 26, 2005. The game on Saturday is the first of three against Swarm and the first of two games in St. Paul in eight days. Rochester returns to Minnesota on Sunday, January 29th for a 6:00 p.m. faceoff. The final installment is Saturday, April 8th in Rochester.
Knighthawks Notes: Rochester is led by John Grant (8+4), who is tied for the league-lead with eight goals and is tied for ninth with 12 points in two games. His last goal was the 250th in his career. Grant is the team's all-time leader in goals (250), assists (273) and points (523). Shawn Williams leads the Knighthawks with 13 points and is eighth in the NLL in that category. He notched his 150th goal as a K-Hawk last Saturday. Shawn Evans was named the NLL Rookie of the Week after netting three goals last week against Toronto.
Minnesota Notes: The Swarm are fresh off a 13-10 win over the Philadelphia Wings on January 14th. Jamie Taylor led the way with one goal and five assists. Nick Patterson was also stellar in goal, stopping 45 shots. The game against Rochester is the second of two this weekend for the Swarm. Minnesota travels to play the Calgary Roughnecks on Friday night.
Next Game: The Rochester Knighthawks will honor one of its all-time greats on Saturday, January 28th at "Tim Soudan Night." The franchise will honor Tim for his 11-year K-Hawk career and his dedication to the sport and the city of Rochester. That evening, the âHawks will host the rival Buffalo Bandits at 8:05 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester War Memorial. A special Tim Soudan ticket package is available, as fans can purchase two $22 seats for just $33.
Jersey Auction: The Knighthawks will also hold a jersey auction to benefit Continuing Developmental Services, as the K-Hawks battle the North Division rival Buffalo Bandits. The jerseys were produced locally by jerseyconnection.com.
The silent auction will take place in the upper atrium bar area. The purple game-worn jerseys will be autographed by the individual player. That evening, the K-Hawks will also honor Tim Soudan, who retired in the offseason. A special No. 33 Tim Soudan jersey will also be among the jerseys in the auction to commemorate "Tim Soudan Night."
The proceeds from a second Soudan jersey will benefit the Casey Zaph Fund. The team will also auction off a No. 27 Casey Zaph jersey to raise money to assist the Zaph family with medical and related family expenses.
Zaph played defense for the Rochester Knighthawks from 1999-2005. The 30-year-old husband and father of two is recovering from bleeding on the brain. Zaph was hospitalized on June 7th when he collapsed at his doctor's office after experiencing headaches. He is currently recovering at home with his family and beginning the long road back to recovery.
