
Kitchener Rebounds vs Sarnia in 6-1 Win

Kitchener, ON - Kitchener bounced back Tuesday night with a 6-1 win over Sarnia after losing 4-1 to Mississauga on Saturday. The Rangers are off to an impressive start with an 8-3 record through 11 games. Jackson Parsons recorded his fifth win of the year in the contest while Tanner Lam and Adrian Misaljevic recorded three-point games.
Kitchener came out hot leading the shots 4-0 two minutes in with multiple high chance opportunities. The Rangers scored on their fifth shot of the period after Lam made a nice move on the Sarnia defender before sending a backhand pass to Matthew Sop who one-timed it home in tight on Nick Surzycia. The Aud celebrated Sop's 7th goal of the season just 5:49 into the hockey game, and he extended his point streak to six games on the goal. The secondary assist went to Simon Motew, for his fourth assist of the year.
Trent Swick put the Rangers up two with 1:08 remaining in the first period. Luca Romano took the puck behind the net and found Kyle Morey out front. Morey made a cross-ice pass to Swick who buried it top shelf. The puck was rocketed so hard that it bounced out of the net immediately, causing confusion before being called a goal.
The first period ended with Kitchener up 2-1 and leading in shots 9-5. The Rangers had two very successful penalty kills in the period killing off both opportunities.
Swick buried his second goal of the game and third of the year just over five minutes into the second period. Swick received a pass entering the offensive zone on a two-on-one from Misaljevic and lasered a puck behind Surzycia. Misaljevic continued his hot start to the year on the goal, now recording at least one point in all but two games this season.
A give-and-go between Lam and Misaljevic directly following a powerplay led to the Blueshirts' fourth unanswered goal of the game. Misaljevic put the puck in the net recording his second point of the night. With his points tonight, Misaljevic is now tied for second in the league for points with 19, tied with teammate Matthew Sop. Motew was awarded an assist for his second point of the game.
The second period ended 4-0 Rangers as Parsons stopped all 16 shots through the first two periods. The Rangers ended the period on a penalty kill and began the third period with 1:33 remaining in the penalty, which they successfully killed off.
Lam put the Rangers up 5-0 early in the third period as he looked determined to score the whole shift. Lam had multiple opportunities but eventually ripped a shot right along the post to score his second goal of the year and third point of the night. Sop recorded his second point of the night on the goal with a primary assist.
Sarnia finally broke through Parsons with 11:10 remaining in the game to make it 5-1. Zach Filak was sent on a breakaway following a two-minute minor for high sticking. Parsons made the first save however the rebound was buried five-hole. The assist was given to Kitchener native Marko Sikic in his pass to lead Filak onto the breakaway.
Rehkopf would not go without a goal this game; he extended his goal streak to six straight with a five-hole one-timer with five minutes left in the game. This goal also extends his point streak to seven games. Brzustewicz recorded an assist on the goal to tie Rehkopf for first in points in the OHL. Brzustewicz also extended his point streak to 10 games; he has only been held off the score sheet once this season - the season opening game.
The Rangers won the game 6-1 and led the shots 29-23, never trailing in shots throughout the match. Parsons recorded his fifth win of the season making 22 of 23 stops. While Surzycia made 23 of 29 saves in the game. Kitchener went 0/4 on the powerplay and 5/5 on the penalty kill. After tonight's win, the Rangers now occupy the top four spots in the OHL scoring race with Rehkopf and Brzustewicz leading the league with 20 points each while Misaljevic and Sop have each recorded 19 points. The third star of the game was Parsons, and the second star of the game was Swick with 2 goals including the game-winning goal. The first star of the game was Lam with one goal and two assists. With his three points, Lam now sits third in rookie scoring in the OHL.
