Brantford Bulldogs News Release
Three Brantford Bulldogs were ranked as part of NHL Central Scouting's Preliminary Players to Watch list for the 2024 NHL Entry Draft release on Wednesday. Forwards Marek Vanacker & Luca Testa hit the list along with defenseman Callum Cheynowski. Vanacker earned a B ranking while Testa and Cheynowski both checked in as C's in the initial list.
Vanacker, the Delhi product, has embraced playing once again in the building he spent years of minor hockey in with the Brantford 99ers AAA program. Recording 5 points (3 goals & 2 assists) across 9 games, the Bulldogs 2022 1st Round OHL Priority Selection Draft choice is off to a strong start in his sophomore OHL season, following up a rookie season that saw the winger named to Team Canada U17's squad for the U17 World Hockey Challenge.
Testa, from Grimsby, joined the Bulldogs in a January 2nd, 2023 trade with the London Knights. Originally London's 1st Round OHL Priority Selection Draft choice in 2022, 15th overall, Testa arrived in the OHL with an already impressive resume, having captained the Niagara North Stars U16 AAA in 2021-22 and posting an outstanding 59 points in 22 games, Testa jumped up to the GOJHL where he helped the St. Catharines Falcons capture the 2022 Sutherland Cup scoring 17 points in 18 playoff games as a U16 player. Like Vanacker, Testa represented Canada at the 2022 World U17 Hockey Challenge and since returning from injury to start the 2023-24 season has been on a torrid pace with 4 points, including 3 goals, in 4 games.
Cheynowski, hailing from Welland, was the Bulldogs 3rd Round selection, 63rd overall, in the 2022 OHL Priority Selection Draft. Like Testa, Cheynowski starred as an underage player in the GOJHL with the Thorold Blackhawks in the 2021-22 season posting 4 points in his 5 game cameo and showing an ability to play well beyond his years. Cheynowski split the 2022-23 season between the Blackhawks & Bulldogs, being named to the GOJHL All Rookie Team, while also posting 7 points in his 18 games with the Bulldogs. Cheynowski has already appeared in 7 games for the Bulldogs in the 2023-24 season as the young defender has shown the ability to both play physical at the major junior level while also being able to skate the puck out of danger on a consistent basis.
The Brantford Bulldogs are both very proud of the accomplishments of Marek, Luca & Callum and look forward to their continued development as they grow into leaders both on and off the ice in Brantford.
