Windsor Spitfires News Release

General Manager Warren Rychel and Head Coach Bob Boughner announced the club has signed Luke Kirwan during a media conference this morning at the WFCU Centre.

Originally Guelph's second round pick (#32 overall) in the 2013 OHL Priority Selection, the Spitfires acquired the rights to the 1997-born native of Syracuse, New York last month, in a deal that saw a pair of second round selections (2018 and 2019) head to the Storm.

Kirwan, 16, spent the 2013-14 season with the United States National Under-17 team, putting up 29 goals and 28 assists along with 54 penalty minutes in 54 games.

Representing the United States at last season's World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, the 6'2, 220- pound left winger was dominant, putting up six goals and seven assists in six games.

Rychel says Kirwan is a major talent and a huge addition for the club.

"Luke is a true power forward that adds size and an instant scoring threat to our lineup," he said. "He's a player we've coveted since he was drafted back in 2013. Luke is a dedicated young man who is interesting in learning and getting better. I think our fans will appreciate his game and he'll a huge contributor to the Windsor Spitfires."

Kirwan will be at our 2014 Training Camp, which opens August 25th at the WFCU Centre.
