Frisco RoughRiders News Release
The RoughRiders and Missions combined for just nine hits as Frisco defeated San Antonio 2-1 in a low scoring affair on Saturday at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Frisco starter Michael Kirkman (5-6) earned the win, allowing just one run on two hits over six frames. Johnny Whittleman had the only extra-base hit for the Frisco offense with an RBI double.
San Antonio struck first with a run in the second inning, but Frisco answered with a pair of runs in the fourth frame when Chad Tracy scored on a Whittleman double followed by an RBI single by Steve Murphy.
Kirkman turned in one of his best pitching performances of the season, allowing just one run over six frames. The Frisco bullpen pitched the final three innings, not allowing a run as Pedro Strop notched his third save with the RoughRiders. San Antonio starter Will Inman (5-2) allowed just two runs on three hits over six innings in the loss.
Offensively, only five RoughRiders recorded a hit as Whittleman had the best night with an RBI double, walk, and run scored. The Frisco defense also tied a season-best, turning four double plays on the night. Despite the win, the RoughRiders stay two games behind Midland in the South Division standings.
Frisco and San Antonio will play game three of the set Sunday at 6 p.m. at Dr Pepper Ballpark with the series tied at one game each.
