Tribe Talk.... K-Tribe Sweeps Hillcats Away - The Indians made it four in a row with a series and doubleheader sweep of Lynchburg Friday night in Kinston. The K-Tribe used the long ball liberally with Casey Frawley and Abner Abreu launching home runs in a 6-1 game one victory. Adam Abraham hit his 12th of the year to make up all the offense in game two's 1-0 win for Kinston.

Gold Glove Caliber K-Tribe - Kinston is statistically the best team in the Carolina League. The K-Tribe's fielding percentage of .978 just edges Salem's mark of .977. As a team, Kinston has committed a league best 68 errors, five better than Salem. Among defensive starters, Roberto Perez holds Kinston's best mark, a .991 fielding percentage, he has also totaled a catchers best 501 putouts. Potomac's percentage of .966 is far and away the worst. Potomac has also totaled 104 errors, 13 more than the next closest team, Winston-Salem.

Carolina Class - With a series sweep secured on Friday, the K-Tribe has impressively joined the league's best atop the standings. Thanks to an 11-4 start to the second half, Kinston is even with Frederick at 49-35, 2.5 games over Myrtle Beach. 14 games over .500 marks the highest point for Kinston this season, impressive considering the Indians 1-9 start. Kinston still hasn't matched the superiority of AAA Columbus. The Indians AAA affiliate is 58 - 31, 9.5 games over second placed Louisville . League's Best - Kinston finished June with the league's best record at 18-9. The K-Tribe launched 18 HR (4th) and had the best era mark at 2.54. June's top mark came on the heels of May's 18-10 record, which was second best in the league, one game back of Frederick's 19-11.

Ace of...Akron -Kinston pitcher Drew Pomeranz was called up to AA Akron earlier today. The first year pro didn't have much left to prove in the Carolina League, having earned an all-star game appearance, pitcher of the week award and topping a number league pitching stats. Pomeranz holds the best era (1.87), lowest opponents batting average (.202) and fourth best strikeout total (95). On Sunday, July 10th, Pomeranz will appear in the XM Futures game as one of ten pitchers for the U.S. Team.

Good Company - Pomeranz will join a number of former K-Tribers who are Futures Game alumni. Former K-Tribers who have recently participated include Lonnie Chisenhall (2010), Chun-Hsiu Chen (2010), Carlos Santana (2009), Nick Weglarz (2009), Wes Hodges (2008), Chuck Lofgren (2007), Max Ramirez (2007), Sean Smith (2006), Ryan Garko (2005), Fausto Carmona (2004, 05), Michael Aubrey (2004), Grady Sizemore (2003), C.C. Sabathia (2000)

California Dreaming- Three K-Tribers played in the 2011 All-Star game on June 21st. Justin Toole was hitless in one at bat. Drew Pomeranz walked one but did not allow a hit in a scoreless inning of work. Closer Preston Guilmet faced two batters giving up a hit and striking out one Cal League All-Star. Manager Aaron Holbert served as one of the Carolina League coaches. The Carolina League All-Stars fell to the California League 6-1.
