Lynchburg Hillcats News Release

Lynchburg, VA- The previous three nights in Kinston, the Hillcats managed a total of 12 hits and two runs. The offense took their frustration out on the Potomac Nationals, exploding for eight runs on 15 hits en route to an 8-3 win Saturday night.

The Nationals started the scoring in the game right away. Francisco Soriano hit a single up the middle to lead off the game. Jeff Kobernus sacrificed him to second, and then Destin Hood singled him home to give Potomac an early 1-0 lead.

The Hillcats struck back right away in the bottom of the first. Three singles in a row by Andrelton Simmons, Phil Gosselin and Joey Terdoslavich scored one run, and then a second run scored on a sacrifice fly by Barrett Kleinknecht.

Lynchburg extended their lead in the bottom of the second. Keenan Wiley reached on an infield single up the middle. L.V. Ware launched a ball down the left field line that hit the top of the wall and caromed away from left fielder Destin Hood. Wiley scored and Ware ended up on third with a triple. The next batter, Marcus Lemon, hit a very slow chopper to third. Third baseman Justin Bloxom couldn't handle it as he tried to make a quick play, and Ware scored to make it 4-1. Simmons followed with an infield single of his own that glanced off the glove of pitcher Adam Olbrychowski. Gosselin came to the plate and hit a double down the left field line that scored Lemon and put Simmons on third. Terdoslavich lifted a long fly ball to right-center field that was deep enough to score Simmons from third. All nine batters ended up coming to the plate in the inning, and the Hillcats ended the second up 6-1.

The Hillcats scored one more in the fifth and one in the sixth. In the fifth, Ware singled home Shawn McGill. With one out and Gosselin on first in the sixth inning, Joey Terdoslavich hit a double to left-center to make the score 8-1.

Potomac scored two more runs off of starter Zeke Spruill in the seventh inning, but the Hillcats cruised to an 8-3 win. Spruill (7-7) recorded his tenth quality start of the season.

The Hillcats recorded 15 hits in the game, one shy of a season high. Five batters had multiple hits, and every batter reached base at least once.

Olbrychowski (2-5) took the loss as the Hillcats snapped their four-game losing streak. The Hillcats are now 6-10 in the second half, and the Potomac Nationals are 9-8.

The Hillcats and Nationals tangle again Sunday night. Lefty Blaine Sims (2-3) will pitch for Lynchburg while fellow southpaw Sammy Solis (1-0) takes the mound for Potomac. First pitch is at 6:05 pm and the gates open at 5.

The Hillcats On-Deck Show presented by Honda/Suzuki of Lynchburg will go on the air at 5:40 pm. Tune in to 105.5 KD Country or go to lynchburg-hillcats.com to listen live to all the action.
