Manchester Monarchs News Release
EL SEGUNDO, CA â The Los Angeles Kings, the parent club of the Manchester Monarchs, have signed unrestricted free agent right wing Trent Klatt to a two-year contract, Kings Senior Vice President/General Manager Dave Taylor announced today. Per club policy, terms of the agreement were not announced. Klatt, 32, played in all 82 regular season games this past season with the Vancouver Canucks and recorded 29 points - including 16 goals - and eight penalty minutes. Klatt, who posted a plus-10 plus/minus rating, also played in all 14 of Vancouver's post-season games, where he registered six points (2-4=6) and two penalty minutes.
Said Taylor: "Trent will be a solid addition to the Kings and a player that our fans will appreciate on a nightly basis. He has a real strong work ethic, and we expect him to bring some offensive production and all-around leadership to our hockey club."
A veteran of 12 NHL seasons, Klatt, a 6-foot-1, 225-pound native of Robbinsdale, Minnesota, had been with the Canucks since October 19, 1998, after Vancouver acquired him from the Philadelphia Flyers. In 700 career regular season games with Canucks, Flyers and Dallas Stars/Minnesota North Stars, Klatt has 300 points (126-174=300) and 261 penalty minutes.
Originally drafted by the Washington Capitals in the fifth-round (82nd overall) in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft, Klatt made his NHL debut during the 1991-92 season with his home state North Stars (Kings Head Coach Andy Murray was an assistant coach then with Minnesota). Klatt, a collegiate standout at the University of Minnesota from 1989-92, reached the Stanley Cup Finals in 1997 while with the Flyers. That season, he recorded a career-high 24 goals and 45 points.
Monarchs Third Season Opens On October 10: The Manchester Monarchs will open the 2003-04 season at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester against a yet to be determined opponent on Friday, October 10 at 7:35 p.m. Currently, the only way to secure a seat for the 2003-04 Home Opener is to purchase one of the Monarchs season ticket packages.
