Kings Sign Goalie Mathieu Chouinard

EL SEGUNDO, CA – The Los Angeles Kings, the parent club of the Manchester Monarchs, have signed unrestricted free agent goaltender Mathieu Chouinard to a one-year contract, Kings Senior Vice President/General Manager Dave Taylor announced today. Per club policy, terms of the agreement were not announced.

Chouinard, 23, split this past season with Binghamton -- the American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Ottawa Senators -- and Peoria of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). Originally selected by the Senators in the first-round (15th overall) in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, he re-entered the 2000 NHL Entry Draft and was again selected by Ottawa in the second-round (45th overall).

In four regular season games with Binghamton, Chouinard posted a 2-0-0 record and a 1.97 goals-against-average, while in 15 games with Peoria he had a 12-2-0, a 2.12 goals-against-average and three shutouts. The 6-foot-1, 211-pounder is a native of Laval, Quebec.

Monarchs Third Season Opens On October 10: The Manchester Monarchs will open the 2003-04 season at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester against a yet to be determined opponent on Friday, October 10 at 7:35 p.m. Currently, the only way to secure a seat for the 2003-04 Home Opener is to purchase one of the Monarchs season ticket packages. The Monarchs offer full season, half season, and ten-game packages. Individual tickets for all home games will go on sale to the public in late September.
