Kings Exercise Contract Option With Weaver

MANCHESTER, NH - The Los Angeles Kings, the parent club of the Manchester Monarchs, on Thursday exercised the team contract option for the 2005-06 NHL season with defenseman Mike Weaver and have agreed to terms on a three-year entry level contract with goaltender Ryan Munce, Kings Senior Vice President/General Manager Dave Taylor announced today. As per club policy, terms of the agreements were not announced.

Weaver, 27, played in 79 games this past season with the Monarchs and set an AHL-career high in points with 23 (1-22=23). He also led the Monarchs and finished third in the League with a plus-35 rating. Originally signed by the Kings as a free agent on July 16, 2004, the 5-foot-9, 182-pound native of Brampton, Ontario, has played in 57 career NHL games, all with the Atlanta Thrashers, and has six points (all assists) and 20 penalty minutes. He played college hockey at Michigan State, where he was a four-year standout.

Munce, 20, played in 55 games this past season for the Sarnia Sting of the Ontario Hockey League, where he posted a 12-32-6 record. The 6-foot-2, 177-pound native of Mississauga, Ontario, was originally selected by the Kings in the third-round (82nd overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. In 2003, he represented Canada and played in six games at the World Under-18 tournament and posted a 4-1-1 record and a 1.83 goals-against-average. In 2002-03, with Sarnia, Munce had a 15-7-0 record with three shutouts. In 2003-04, he had a record of 28-21-4 and two shutouts with the Sting.
