PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves won their third-straight game on Friday night over the Birmingham Barons, 8-4, and moved to a half-game out of first place in the South Division of the Double-A South. The Braves lead the current series, 3-1, are 15-5 over the past 20 games, and 9-2 in their last 11.

Nolan Kingham starred for the M-Braves again on the mound, dealing 6.0 shutout innings on three hits, walking none, and striking out six. Over Kingham's last two starts, the Las Vegas native has surrendered no runs and just seven hits with 11 strikeouts and no walks.

Kingham logged his fifth quality start and lowered his ERA down to 2.64. The Texas product ranks seventh in the league in ERA and first in innings pitched (47.1).

Braden Shewmake and the M-Braves offense once again provided their starter with plenty of run support on Friday night. Shewmake got the scoring started for the Braves in the second inning. The former first-round pick out of Texas A&M brought home CJ Alexander - who singled to start the frame - with a double down the left-field line. With one out, Hendrik Clementina singled to load the bases. Tyler Neslony hit a single scoring Shewmake and it was 2-0. Justin Dean followed with a bases-loaded to push the lead to 3-0. Clementina raced home on an Emilio Vargas (L, 1-1) wild pitch to make it 4-0, and Wendell Rijo finished the five-run inning with a sacrifice fly, scoring Neslony.

The M-Braves sent nine batters to the plate, and the five-run inning was the biggest by the Braves this season. Mississippi ran Vargas from the game after just 2.0 innings, handing him his first loss in six starts.

Shewmake came back to the plate with one out in the third inning and sent a 379-foot opposite-field blast onto the berm in left-center to extend the lead to 6-0. The homer was Shewmake's fourth of the season and first at Trustmark Park. The Wylie, TX native ended the night 3-for-4 with a season-high three runs scored.

The Braves scored another run on a John Parke wild pitch in the fourth inning and extended the advantage to 7-0.

Troy Bacon took over for Kingham in the seventh inning and pitched a scoreless frame, striking out one and walking one. Emmanuel Ramirez let the Barons get on the scoreboard in the eighth inning by walking the bases loaded and giving up a two-run single to Xavier Fernandez. Sean McLaughlin came on to retired the final batter of the inning after the hit.

Daysbel Hernandez pitched the ninth and gave up two runs on four hits, but struck out two, keeping the Barons from getting the tying run to the plate.

The Braves are now 11-5 in June and will look to clinch their third series win in their last four tries on Saturday night at Trustmark Park. LHP Hayden Deal (1-2, 3.64) will start the M-Braves against Birmingham RHP Jason Bilous (0-0, 5.52). The first pitch is set for 6:05 pm with coverage on 103.9 WYAB, mississippibraves.com, and MiLB FirstPitch app.
