Kingfish shoot down 'Pilots, 4-3

Two power play goals by Marquis Mathieu and a stellar 40 saves by Niklas Sundberg helped lift the Kingfish over the Pensacola Ice Pilots 4-3.

Bryan Richardson opened the scoring just 59 seconds into the opening stanza on the Kingfish's first shot of the game as he fired a laser over the shoulder of Pensacola goaltender Brian Eklund and off two goal posts before finding its way into the back of the net. Mike Oliveira added an assist on the goal.

The Kingfish took a 2-0 lead on their second shot of the game a Marquis Mathieu buried the puck behind Eklund at the 11:02 mark of the first period. Mathieu tallied the unassisted goal on the power play.

Pensacola cut Kingfish lead to one as Louis Dumont beat Niklas Sundberg over the glove with a laser from the right point at the 1:10 mark of the second period for the unassisted goal.

Scott Hewson tied the game at two as he deflected a Chris Minard shot past Sundberg at the 13:25 mark of the period. Jeremy Van Hoof also added an assist on the goal.

The Kingfish regained the lead in early in the third period as Mathieu added his second power play goal of the game as he slipped a bad angle shot past Eklund at the 1:37 mark if the period. Joe Guenther added an assist on the goal.

Pensacola tied the game up at three as Josh Harrold slipping in from the point took a centering pass from Louis Dumont in the corner at the 6:25 mark of the period. Gregor Baumgartner also added an assist on the goal.

Newcomer Dan Sullivan scored the game winner off a centering pass from Mike Oliveira in a 2-on-1 break with 5:49 remaining in the third period. Mike Perna moved the puck through the neutral zone to Oliveira to set up the play.

The Kingfish went 2-7 on the man advantage with Marquis Mathieu tallying both power play goals as Pensacola went 0-8 on the power play.
