Kenosha Kingfish News Release
The Kenosha Kingfish hit a home run cycle and blew out the Rockford Rivets 13-3 at Historic Simmons Field on pride night Thursday night.
With the win, the Kingfish extended their win streak to three games while denying the Rivets' opportunity to win three straight.
Kenosha put up a pair of homers in the first inning to get the scoring started. Parker Stinson hit a solo shot to lead off the game for his third blast on the year, and Brady Counsell hit his second slam of the year to send Jacob Tobias home. This made the game 3-0 early on.
Tobias extended the early Kingfish lead to 4-0 in the third frame with a double in the right-center gap that sent James McCoy home.
Northwoods League RBI leader Matthew Mebane hit a solo shot for his fifth RBI of the year in the top of the fourth frame to make the game 4-1. Tobias responded with a bases-clearing three-run homer to send McCoy and Stinson home. This extended the Kenosha lead to 7-1.
Mebane responded on the Rivets' behalf once again, as he hit an RBI-double that plated Ty Crittenberger in the sixth frame to make it a 7-2 contest.
Kenosha tacked on another run to make it 8-2 via a sacrifice fly off the bat of Drake Westcott that scored Stinson.
Rockford dug into the lead once again when Brody Harding hit Crittenberger home on an RBI-single to draw it back to an 8-3 game.
The Kingfish busted the game wide open in the eighth inning. Drake Varnado kicked off the inning's scoring with an RBI pinch-hit single that scored McCoy. Gage Williams provided an explanation point when he completed the team's home run cycle with a grand slam that scored Westcott, Counsell and Varnado.
Jacob Tobias led the hot Kenosha bats, as he went 3-for-4 with his three-run blast, four RBIs and two runs scored.
Matthew Mebane showed out for the Rivets, as he went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs on the day.
Jacob Gehring (3-0) gave up two runs and three hits on four frames with a pair of strikeouts to get the win.
Tanner Knight (1-1) took his first loss on the season after giving up four runs on five hits while fanning one batter in three innings of work.
Kenosha will wrap up their commuter series against Rockford on June 24 with a first pitch at 6:05 p.m.
