Green Bay Rockers News Release

Ashwaubenon, Wis.-The Green Bay Rockers fell to the Wausau Woodchucks 6-4 Thursday night at Capital Credit Union Park, dropping their first home game since last Thursday against Lakeshore.

The Rockers drop to 8-17 on the season while the Woodchucks improve to 12-13 as these two teams will play each other again Friday night, with the Rockers looking for the series split.

Green Bay wasted no time getting on the board, as an RBI single from Owen Jackson gave the Rockers an early 1-0 lead after the first inning, picking up right where they left off from a night ago following the walk-off home run.

The Woodchucks responded in the top of the second on an RBI groundout, tying the score at one apiece through the first two innings of play.

Following a scoreless third inning on both sides, the Woodchucks tacked on five runs in the top of the fourth, four runs coming in off a grand slam by Tim Conway as the Woodchucks took a 6-1 going into the fifth inning.

The Rockers got one back in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI groundout from Griffin Stevens, trailing 6-2 heading into the sixth.

Kyle Stoddard struck out all three batters in the bottom of the sixth, keeping it a 6-2 ballgame going into the seventh inning of play.

Chase Pelter pitched a scoreless seventh inning, and Stevens added on another RBI hit, making it a 6-3 game through seven innings.

Tristin Garcia made back-to-back highlight reel plays at second base to keep Wausau off the board in the eighth, as the Rockers headed into the bottom of the eighth needing to mount another late comeback.

The Rockers made it a two-run game in the bottom of the eighth, courtesy of an RBI single from Nainoa Cardinez, making it 6-4 heading into the ninth.

Following another scoreless frame from Pelter, Green Bay came up to bat in the bottom of the ninth down by two runs and needing two runs to extend the game.

Despite a two-out walk drawn by Matt Scannell, the Rockers did not score in the bottom of the ninth as the Woodchucks took the first of back-to-back meetings.

The Rockers will head back on the road for the second straight meeting with the Woodchucks on Friday. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. from Athletic Park.
