Kenosha, Wis. - The Kingfish (9-14), a day removed from being swept in a double header against Lakeshore, came back to take down the Rockford Rivets at home by a final of 12-6.
The Kingfish scored first and added to their lead from there. The Kingfish broke out in the second and third innings by plating four runs in each. Those frames were highlighted by a Marty Bechina 3-run triple in the second and a 2-run homer in the third.
After taking a 9-0 lead, Rockford responded with 6 unanswered. They scored 1 in the fourth, 2 in the fifth, and 3 in the top of the sixth. The Kingfish plated 3 in the bottom of the sixth inning to make the result all but assured.
Cole Erickson took the win after 5.2 innings of work. He allowed 6 runs off of 7 hits, and walked 6. JR Holloway picked up the save by pitching the final 3.1 innings. He gave up one hit, one walk, and punched out 4 to shut down the Rivets late in the game.
Marty Bechina finished the day a single shy of the cycle. He went 3 for 6 on the night, and tallied 5 RBI. Gunnar McNeill went 3 for 4, and JD Hearn 3 for 5 with 3 runs scored. In total, the Kingfish offense had a 17 hit ballgame and drew 4 walks.
The Kingfish are on the road to meet the Rivets in Rockford tomorrow at 6:35 CT. On Thursday and Friday the Kingfish are in Mequon to play the Chinooks, before coming home on Saturday and Sunday to host Battle Creek.
