Kenosha Kingfish News Release

The Kenosha Kingfish defeated the Battle Creek Battle Jacks 11-4 at home to take game three of the four-game series between the two teams.

The Kingfish snapped a two-game skid with the win and now trails the series just 4-5 to the Battle Jacks on the year.

Battle Creek struck first in the opening frame with a pair of runs to get out to an early 2-0 lead. Dillon Kark hit a two-RBI single that sent Billy Hancock and Joey Grabanski sprinting home.

Kenosha responded with a run in the bottom of the third frame making it 2-1 on a Drake Westcott double that plated Drake Herrera.

The Kingfish tacked on two more runs to grab the lead 3-2 in the following frame. Brady Counsell hit a double into the left-center gap to send Connor Hincks across the plate, and Gage Williams hit a sacrifice fly into left field to score Josh Leslie.

The Battle Jacks wasted no time in reclaiming the lead, as they put up a pair of runs in the fifth frame to go up 4-3. Patrick Mills got an RBI fielder's choice on a grounder to shortstop that scored Charlie Rhee, and Kark's RBI single sent Mills home to keep the line moving.

Kenosha's bats jolted awake in the bottom of the seventh, as the team put up a four-spot to claim a 7-4 lead. Williams belted a two-RBI single to right field to score Hincks and Josh Leslie, and Herrera did the same to plate Counsell and Williams.

The Kingfish kept the bats hot in the eighth inning by putting up four more runs to increase the lead to 11-4. Jay Beshears opened the inning up with an RBI single that sent Omar Lopez across the plate. Leslie kept the line moving with a two-RBI single that scored Westcott and Beshears. Counsell wrapped up the scoring for the evening with an RBI groundout that plated Hincks.

Leslie was the leader of a team of hot Kenosha bats on offense, as he went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs, a pair of RBIs and a walk on the day.

Kark paced Battle Creek at the plate, as he went 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs and a walk.

Nick Ferazzi (1-0) got the win after pitching two innings and a third of no run baseball while giving up two hits and racking up four strikeouts.

Jacob Lyncan (0-1) took the loss after giving up two runs and two hits with two strikeouts in an inning and two thirds.

Northwoods League All-Star selection Grayson Thurman went two innings for his NWL-leading 11th save of the year.

The Kingfish (2-3) and Battle Jacks (2-3) sit in a tie for second place in the Great Lakes East.

The trams will play one another for the last game of this four-game series on July 11 with a first pitch time at 6:35 p.m.
