
Mallards to Host Two Badger Softball Players for Home Run Derby

The Mallards will host two University of Wisconsin-Madison softball players for a home run derby before their 6:35pm game on Thursday, July 14th at Warner Park. Maddie Schwartz and Fiona Girardot, members of the 2022 Badgers softball team, will face off against Mallards players Elias Stevens and Payton Smith prior to the Mallards UW Alumni Night, which will feature other distinguished Wisconsin-Madison alumni, including current NFL player Alec Ingold.
Maddie Schwartz led the Badgers last year with 23 wins on the season. Schwartz also boasted 19 complete games, a 2.50 ERA and 130 strikeouts in 213 innings pitched. Schwartz appeared in 41 games while holding opposing batters to a .255 batting average.
Fiona Girardot posted a .324 batting average with 46 hits, 24 RBI's and 4 home runs in 2022. Girardot was tied for most appearances with 51 while starting 50 of those games. Girardot also held the team's second best on-base percentage and OPS, with .434 and .927, respectively.
The home run derby will start at 5:45pm, consisting of a 90 second round for each player. The softball player and Mallards player with the most home runs in round one will face off in a championship round. Schwartz and Girardot will also sign autographs for fans inside the stadium during the game following the pre-game home run derby.
