Richmond Kickers News Release

RICHMOND, VA - The Richmond Kickers (4-2-1) embark on a two-game road trip this week beginning this Wednesday, May 11 when they take on Toronto FC II (1-3-2). The match will be broadcast live from Ontario Soccer Centre through the league's official Match Center, uslsoccer.com/match-center, at 11:30 a.m.

Richmond and Toronto swap home field advantage after the Kickers claimed a 1-0 win over the second year franchise on April 30. Losing starting goalkeeper, Ryan Taylor, to a season-ending injury last month, the Kickers called in the services of New England Revolution goalkeeper, Matt Turner, and rebounded from a pair of unsuccessful road matches to shut out TFC II at City Stadium. After late game dramatics and a controversial penalty call cost the Kickers a 3-2 loss in Charlotte one week earlier, Brian Ownby's lone goal against Toronto lifted the Kickers to a much-needed victory. The three-game series between the two clubs concludes at City Stadium on July 23.

Most recently, Turner returned and backstopped the Kickers to his second consecutive shutout at City Stadium with a 1-0 win over the Wilmington Hammerheads on May 7. Scoreless through the first half, a Wilmington own goal gifted the Kickers the full free points after Braeden Troyer's lofted cross struck the crossbar before deflecting off a Hammerheads player.

Meanwhile, Toronto's winless streak extended to three games after dropping a 2-0 loss to Louisville at home. TFC II could not recover from Louisville's opening goal inside the first five minutes. Despite weathering 14 shots to keep the match within striking distance, Toronto conceded the second goal just past the hour mark to suffer their third loss in as many games.

Following the mid-week match up, the Kickers' road swing continues with a stop at Red Bull Arena on Saturday, May 14 to face the New York Red Bulls II before returning to City Stadium to host the Second Round of the U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday, May 18 and Louisville City FC on Saturday, May 21.
