Sammy Ochoa Named USL Player of the Week

FC Tulsa News Release

Tulsa Roughnecks FC captain Sammy Ochoa has been named the USL Player of the Week. He becomes only the second Tulsa player to receive the award, joining goalkeeper Jake Feener who received the honor last year.

Ochoa was a likely choice for the award after his two big performances last week. The former Seattle Sounders striker produced back-to-back, two-goal performances in a pair of Roughnecks away matches.

On Wednesday, Ochoa twice put Tulsa in front of Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 with a goal in each half before the Roughnecks eventually lost 3-2 on a stoppage time goal from the WFC2.

In the second match, on Sunday in Seattle, Ochoa scored two goals in the first half to help the Roughnecks snap a six-match winless streak with a 2-1 victory over Sounders 2.

The production was much needed by the Roughnecks, as they entered the week with only four total goals scored in their first six matches, but Ochoa matched that by himself with his big week.

His four goals lead the Roughnecks as do his two assists.

Tulsa and Ochoa will look to continue their good form Saturday when they travel to Kansas City to take on the Swope Park Rangers, the USL side for Sporting KC of MLS. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30pm.
