July 1, 2011 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Frederick Keys News Release
The Keys took the three-game series from the Hillcats as they defeated Lynchburg, 6-1, on Friday night at City Stadium. RHP Bobby Bundy improved to 8-5 on the season after he allowed just one run over seven innings on the night. Frederick took the lead with a three-run fifth inning which was highlighted by a Bobby Stevens two-run double. With the win, the Keys improved to 5-4 on the second half of the season and 46-32 overall in 2011.
Lynchburg
scored its lone of the run of the night in the first inning. After SS Andrelton Simmons reached on a bunt single, 2B Phil Gosselin doubled him home. Bundy then struck out 1B Joey Terdoslavich and got DH Christian Bethancourt to fly out to center field to end the inning.
RHP Aaron Shafer kept the Keys scoreless until the first pitch of the third inning. RF Jacob Julius drove Shafer's pitch over the right field fence for his fifth home run of the season.
Tied at one entering the fifth, C Brian Ward led off the inning with a double off the left field wall. Shafer retired the next two Keys to the dish but walked CF Steve Bumbry. With two out and two on, Bobby Stevens came through with clutch two-run double to put the Keys in front. 1B Tyler Townsend singled home Stevens as Frederick led 4-1 heading to the home-half of the fifth.
The three-run advantage was plenty for Bundy as he exited the game after seven innings. On the night, Bundy struck out six, walked two, and allowed one run on five hits. He improved to 8-5 on the year and is now tied for the Carolina League lead in wins with Myrtle Beach's Robbie Ross.
Bundy's counterpart, Aaron Shafer, surrendered a season-high four runs on seven hits as he lost his first game as member of the Atlanta Braves organization.
Frederick
heads to Kinston, NC on Saturday when they open up a three-game series with the K-Tribe. RHP Oliver Drake (6-3, 2.48) gets the nod for the series opener while the Indians will turn to LHP T.J. House (5-6, 4.16). First pitch from Historic Grainger Stadium is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
