Frederick Keys News Release
Wilmington, DE -- The Frederick Keys (41-26) survived a late rally by the Wilmington Blue Rocks (29-38), as Marino Salas earned his 15th save of the season, despite giving up a solo home run in the ninth inning.
The Keys got two hits from five different hitters, including Mario Delgado, who hit his 26th home run of the season, as the Keys early offense held up against Wilmington's late game heroics.
The Keys got on the board in the top of the fourth inning, as Nolan Reimold scored from third base when Branden Florence grounded into a double play.
The Keys expanded on the lead in the top of the fifth inning, as Travis Brown tripled to drive in Mike Russell, before scoring on Jeff Fiorentino's single to right field.
Mario Delgado helped the Keys jump out to a more commanding lead, hitting a solo shot over the right field wall, his 26th of the season, to put the Keys in front 4-0. Later in the sixth inning Russell would single to drive in Dustin Yount to give the Keys a 5-0 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth inning the Blue Rocks would finally answer back, as Iggy Suarez hit a two-run single to left field, bringing Wilmington within three runs.
But Nate Spears would take back Wilmington's progress, hitting a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning, his sixth of the season, giving the Keys a 7-2 lead.
Wilmington was not done, as the Blue Rocks, led by a two-run double from Bret LeVier, who later scored on a Bryan Pritz single, mounted a comeback, closing the gap to two runs.
Claudio Arias hit a solo home run off Salas in the bottom of the ninth to bring the Blue Rocks within a run, but Salas struck out Ian Bladergroen to end the game and earn his fifteenth save of the season.
Carlos Jan (6-4) earned the win for the Keys tossing 5.2 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits, while striking out seven.
Luis Mendoza (4-10) took the loss allowing five runs on nine hits over 5.2 innings.
