Frederick Keys News Release
FREDERICK, MD - The Frederick Keys (23-23) fell back to .500, as Jarrett Gardner and Kyle Bono combined on a two-hit shutout, helping the Wilmington Blue Rocks (22-24) avoid the sweep in the rain-shortened, 2-0 victory over the Keys.
Jarod Rine and Josh McCurdy managed the only two hits for a Keys offense that cooled off, after combining to score 15 runs over their first two games of the series.
Neither team was able to produce any offense until Zach Borowiak broke a scoreless tie in the sixth inning with his third home run of the season, a two-run shot to left field off Adam Loewen, giving the Blue Rocks a 2-0 lead.
The Keys only managed to put one more player on base after the sixth inning, as the rain helped the Blue Rocks avoid the sweep.
Adam Loewen (0-2) took the hard-luck loss in his longest outing of the season, lasting 7.0 innings, allowing two runs on three hits, while striking out eight and walking three.
Bono (1-1) earned the victory tossing 3.0 no-hit innings in relief of Gardner, who left after five with the game locked in a scoreless tie.
The Keys will travel to Lynchburg to play the Northern Division-leading Hillcats in a four game series starting on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. RHP Brian Finch will take the hill for Frederick. The Keys return to Harry Grove Stadium on Monday, May 30 for a 7:05 p.m. game with the Salem Avalanche. Tickets are still available by calling 1-877-8-GO-KEYS or visiting www.frederickkeys.com.
