WIL CORDERO JOINS P-NATS ON REHAB ASSIGNMENT Washington Nationals first baseman Wil Cordero, who was placed on the Nationals DL April 8, 2005 with a left knee strain, joined the Potomac Nationals Friday May 20th for a six-day rehab assignment.

Following a rainout on Friday night, the P-Nats scheduled a doubleheader for Saturday May 21 against the Salem Avalanche.

In the first game, Cordero propelled the Nationals past the Avalanche with one home run in the fifth and a walk-off home run for the 5-4 victory.

In the second game, Salem pitcher Josh Muecke held the P-Nats scoreless for the full seven innings and the Avalanche went on to win 3-0.

Sunday May 22 saw Cordero back in the lineup for Potomac but Salem's pitching was dominant once again and the Avalanche went on to an 8-2 win. Kory Casto and Doc Brooks scored the only two runs for the Nationals.

The Lynchburg Hillcats arrived Monday May 23 for their second visit to the Pfitz and the start of a new series. The Hillcats got on the board first in the second inning but the P-Nats tied it up in the third and then exploded for six more runs in the fourth. Lynchburg didn't back down, scoring eight more for the 9-8 victory.

The Nationals would not get the chance compete for the win on Tuesday as the game was rained out and rescheduled for tonight.

The teams will play two seven-inning games with the first game starting at 6:05. The Nationals will send LHP Mike Hinckley to the mound for the first game. The Hillcats will send another southpaw, Brian Holliday, out to counter Hinckley. The second game will see Nationals RHP Samuel Martinez going against RHP Wardell Starling. "Salute to Scouts" Nights continue on FRIDAY JUNE 3! Scout Troops of all kinds are invited to enjoy exciting Carolina League baseball followed by a movie on the scoreboard and an on-field campout at Pfitzner Stadium. Tickets are available to groups of 20 or more for $8.00 in Reserved seating and $6.00 in the Grandstand. Anyone, however, with a valid ticket from that night's game will be invited to camp out as well.
