Frederick Keys News Release
WOODBRIDGE, VA - The Frederick Keys tallied five extra-base hits en route to a 4-2 win over the Potomac Nationals on Thursday night at Northwest Federal Field at Pfitzner Stadium. Appearing on MLB rehab assignments, Darren O'Day struck out the side in the seventh, while Colby Rasmus went 1-for-4 with a double.
Collin Woody got the Keys (24-32) on the board in the second. Following a double by Jomar Reyes, Woody slammed a two-run homer to left-center off Sterling Sharp. Two innings later, Woody doubled and came home on a second two-bagger by Yojhan Quevedo. In the game, each of Frederick's first five hits went for extra bases.
Potomac (29-26) managed only two hits in the first five innings against Mike Baumann before getting on the board in the sixth. Adam Eaton walked and moved to third on a double by Carter Kieboom to prompt a pitching change, while a ground out by Ian Sagdal and an RBI single by Jake Noll made it a 3-2 game.
Frederick regained the run in the seventh. Following a one-out fielder's choice, Cole Billingsley stole second and came home on a single to right by Chris Clare.
O'Day solidified the momentum shift by striking out the side in the seventh. Tossing 20 pitches (12 strikes) the submariner did not allow a hit though plunked Eaton.
Zach Muckenhirn loaded the bases in the eighth, but struck out Rhett Wiseman to keep the tying and go-ahead runs on base. The southpaw then saw the minimum in the ninth to close things out.
Baumann (3-0) got the win allowing two runs on three hits in 5.1 innings. He walked two and struck out five. Sharp (4-3) suffered the loss allowing four runs on seven hits in 6.2 innings. Muckenhirn got the save, tossing two scoreless frames while scattering three hits.
Frederick continues its six-game roadtrip in Wilmington on Friday night. Left-hander Zac Lowther (0-0, 2.25) starts for the Keys and will be opposed by Blue Rocks right-hander Ofreidy Gomez (2-3, 3.89). First pitch is at 7:05 from Frawley Stadium and the broadcast can be heard on frederickkeys.com and the TuneIn radio app.
The Keys return to Nymeo Field on Monday, June 11 when the Lynchburg Hillcats and Down East Wood Ducks come to town for the final first half homestand.
