Frederick Keys News Release

The Keys battled their way back from a 3-1 deficit to finally capture the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. The advantage would be short-lived however as Winston-Salem battled back, scoring five unanswered runs to defeat Frederick 8-5 in front of 2,240 fans on Monday night at Harry Grove Stadium.

The Dash ended a season-high five-game losing streak while the Keys dropped its third consecutive game (10-13).

Down 3-1 in the sixth inning the Keys sent nine men to the plate in its rally for the lead. After DH Tyler Kolodny was hit by a pitch with one out, 3B Dale Mollenhauer lined a triple by the diving Winston-Salem right-fielder Jose Martinez. Kolodny's run brought the Keys within 3-2.

Later in the inning, SS Garabez Rosa's second infield single of the evening scored Mollenhauer to tie the game. Dash reliever Santos Rodriguez struggled with control in his brief stint in the game and he walked CF Trent Mummey with the bases loaded to give the Keys the lead.

But Frederick could not add any more to its newfound lead and quickly Winston-Salem proved it would not be enough.

The Dash rallied with two men down for two runs after consecutive walks kept the inning alive. Up strode 2B Jake Oester who doubled over right-fielder Kyle Hudson's head to give Winston-Salem the lead once more at 5-4.

Winston-Salem would score three runs in the eighth inning to open up the lead to 8-4.

Tuesday, May 3rd, Frederick will send RHP Oliver Drake to the hill looking to even the series. First pitch is slated for 7:00 p.m. in game two of the three-game series with Winston-Salem.

It will be Baseball Purists Night at Harry Grove Stadium. The game will be void of promotions, taped music or videoboard graphics. Instead an organist will be on hand and fans will see baseball as it is - just a game.
