Wilmington, DE - Lynchburg starter Chris Masters dominated to the tune of seven scoreless, with nine strikeouts Monday against the first place Blue Rocks.

Hillcats leadoff man L.V. Ware singled to start the game in the top of the first. He advanced to third on Todd Cunningham's single down the left field line. Phil Gosselin then delivered an RBI groundout to third base to score Ware putting the Hillcats up 1-0 early.

Lynchburg then went off for five hits and four more runs in the top of the second inning. Ware capped the inning with a first pitch two-run blast, his first of the season, which put the 'Cats up 5-0 in the second.

Enjoying a comfortable lead, left-handed starter Chris Masters (3-0) dealt for the Hillcats. Wilmington leadoff batter, Whit Merrifield, doubled to start the first inning, however, that would be the only hit for a Blue Rock through the first seven frames. Masters completed seven shutout innings while striking out nine and allowing just the one hit on his way to his third win of the season.

The Hillcats added insurance runs periodically throughout the ball game, scoring two in the fourth, one in the fifth, and a final run in the ninth. All nine batters recorded a hit and all but one contributed a run scored or an RBI.

Wilmington's starter, Tim Melville (2-3), was victimized for seven runs, six earned, through his four innings of work as he took the loss for the Blue Rocks.

Ware finished the night 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBI, and two runs scored.

The Hillcats improved to 8-14, gaining a game in the standings against the first place Wilmington Blue Rocks who fell to 15-8 on the season.
