Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

- RHP Barret Loux (2-1, 3.72) at LHP Danny Rosenbaum (1-1, 2.82) -

AWARDS SEASON: Robbie Erlin got some good news on the day after his second consecutive brilliant outing. On Monday the Carolina League announced that the left-hander was given the circuit's Pitcher of the Week award. Erlin dominated Potomac in a no decision last Monday, striking out a career-high ten in a career-long seven innings of work. He only allowed two hits and did not walk a batter in the Birds' eventual 2-0 win. He pitched another gem on Sunday against Frederick. Robbie surrendered only one hit, a Bobby Stevens leadoff homer in the third, in another seven inning start as he picked up a 2-1 win. His overall line for the week was 14 innings of one-run ball, he gave up just three hits, walked one and struck out 16. Erlin lowered his league-best WHIP to 0.59 and he also leads the Carolina League with a .130 opponent batting average. His 32 strikeouts are the third-highest total in the league.

HE'S NOT THE ONLY ONE: Erlin wasn't the only Pelican to take home some hardware this week. Ryan Strausborger was awarded Carolina League Player of the Week on Monday. The Pelicans' left fielder hit .414 (12-29) in his past seven games, dating back to last Monday. Half of his 12 hits went for extra bases, including his first three home runs of the season. The all came in a Wednesday doubleheader against Potomac, with two coming in consecutive at bats in the opener for his first professional multi-homer game. In fact, coming into that game, he only had two home runs in his entire minor league career, both coming in 2010 with Spokane. The run also included a three-double game in Saturday's wacky 11-10 win over Frederick. He also contributed in the field, as he threw out the potential tying run at the plate to end the eighth inning of that Saturday night win. The Osceola, IN native is the second Myrtle Beach player to win the Player of the Week honors this season. Third baseman Mike Olt won the first award of the 2011 season on April 18.

KEY TO VICTORY: Strausborger has destroyed Frederick pitching so far this season. In six games, the former Indiana State Sycamore is 16-for-24 (.667) with five doubles, two triples, three RBI's and five runs scored. He's also stolen two bases on three attempts and made the game-saving throw from left field in Saturday's 11-10 win. Ryan is tied with Winston-Salem's Jose Martinez for the league lead in hits with 34 and is sixth in the league in hitting with a .343 mark. Only Reynaldo Rodriguez of Salem has scored more runs than Strausborger's 20 (24), and with 55 total bases, Ryan is only one behind Rodriguez for the league lead.
