Keys Collect 23 Hits in Rout of Salem

FREDERICK, MD - The Frederick Keys (19-26) produced a season-high 23 hits in a 16-5 rout of the Salem Red Sox (22-21) on Wednesday night. The 23 hits marked the second-highest total in team history, while seven different Keys had multi-hit efforts.

The Keys jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the second inning. Jomar Reyes and Yojhan Quevedo singled off Enmanuel De Jesus to open things up. Collin Woody then followed with a walk, and T.J. Nichting drove in two with a single. Two batters later, Ryan McKenna brought in Woody with a base hit.

In the fourth, Salem scored on Roldani Baldwin home run, but the Keys answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame. Nichting and Chris Clare singled. Following a wild pitch, McKenna singled in both men to make it 5-1 Keys.

The biggest inning for the Keys came in the fifth. Quevedo doubled, and Woody walked. With one out, Clare, McKenna, and Billingsley each drove in runs with singles. Wilson Garcia then launched his first of two three-run home runs to make it 11-1 Keys.

Salem got three runs back in the top of the sixth. C.J. Chatham singled, and Bobby Dalbec walked. That set up Jerry Downs, who hit a three-run home run to right field and reduced the Keys lead to 11-4.

Frederick got the three runs back in the seventh on Garcia's second three-run blast of the game. Ending the game with a career-high seven RBIs, the former Phillies farmhand went 4-for-6 with a pair of runs scored. Meanwhile the seven RBIs were one short of a Frederick franchise record (set by Jack Voight on August 3, 1989 vs. Prince William).

Garcia closed out his day with a bases loaded RBI single in the eighth, while a walk plated the final run of the day for the orange and black.

Alex Wells (2-3) earned the win for the Keys surrendering two runs on five hits in 5.2 innings. He walked one and struck out two. De Jesus (0-1) suffered the loss allowing eight runs on 12 hits in 4.1 innings.

The Keys and Red Sox close out their series on Thursday morning. Right-hander Cristian Alvarado (4-3, 4.11) starts for Frederick and will be opposed by Salem right-hander Jake Thompson (2-2, 4.83).
