Frederick Keys News Release
Frederick, MD -- Despite taking an early 7-1 lead, the usually trusty Keys' bullpen was not able to withstand the Salem Avalanche's late-inning rally, as Salem came back to defeat Frederick 10-7.
After struggling to score a day ago, the Keys got on the board in the bottom of the first inning when Felipe Paulino unleashed a wild pitch, allowing Pete Maestrales to score from third base.
Lou Santangelo homered in the top of the second inning for Salem to tie the score. But the Keys would break the game open just an inning later.
Mario Delgado, would help regain the lead, hitting a two-run double to right center field to drive in Maestrales and Tripper Johnson, giving Frederick a 3-1 lead.
An inning later Travis Brown would drive in two more with a broken-bat single to left field. Juan Gutierrez and Jarod Rine each scored giving the Keys a 5-1 lead.
Nolan Reimold became the second Keys hitter to have his lumber fail him despite driving in two runs. Reimold's broken bat single scored Maestrales for the third time and Johnson for his second run, putting the Keys in front 7-1.
But Salem would mount a comeback in the top of the seventh inning. Santangelo hit his second home run of the night, this time a two-run shot of Anderson. Salem kept hitting, tagging Fredy Deza for four more runs, including a Drew Sutton two-run home run that tied the game at seven. The runs would be the first allowed by Deza in 12.1 innings.
An inning later Santangelo would strike again with another solo homer to break the tie. The Avalanche would add two more runs off Manny Basilio to win 10-7.
Rommie Lewis (4-2)took the loss allowing two runs on 1.1 scoreless innings.
