THE HILLCATS...Continue a week long homestand with the middle game of a three-game set against the Wilmington Blue Rocks...Recorded a season-high 13 runs in a 13-6 pounding of Wilmington in the opener last night...Have won consecutive games for the first time since June 14th..Still, have dropped 13 of their last 16 games...Over a longer stretch, are just 7-22 over their last 29 games...Are seeking to pick up three straight wins for the first time since 5/27-5/29...

TRANSACTIONS: LHP David Davidson (see page 3) was promoted from Low-A Hickory today...The Ontario, Canada native went 2-1 with a 1.93 ERA in 27 appearances with the Crawdads this season...In addition, OF Brad Correll was released by the Pittsburgh Pirates today...The 25-year-old was hitting .254-6-38 at the time of his discharge...

RECORD NIGHT: The Hillcats posted a season-high 13 runs in last night's win...In addition, the team matched a season-high by registering 17 hits...They also equaled a season-high by posting 6 hits in the 8th inning...All told, the Cats scored runs in 6 of the 8 innings they came to the plate last night...

STREAKING: DH Juan Tejeda drove in a Hillcats season-high 6 men last night while going 4-for-5 at the plate....The Dominican Republic native has hit safely in 11 of his last 13 games (22-43, .512-4-15)...The slugger is now batting .385 in 19 games with the Hillcats...Lastly, Tejeda has reached base safely in 32 of his last 53 plate appearances (60%)....

WALKER HEATING UP: C Neil Walker went 3-for-5 with 3 RBI-2Bs last night..He has now hit safely in 7 straight games (9-25, .360-0-6)...

LEADERBOARD: UTIL Mike Carlin went 2-for-4 in last night's win to raise his average to .287...That is the 8th best mark in the Carolina League...In addition, he ranks 2nd in the league in slugging percentage (.490) and 5th in on-base percentage (.405)...

ERROR FREE: The Hillcats have gone consecutive games without committing an error for the first time since July 6th...Still, they have committed a total of 21 errors in their last 13 games...Comparatively, the Cats committed just 20 errors in their previous 24 games...

HANKINS HONORED: RHP Derek Hankins was named Carolina League Pitcher of the Week on Monday...The Illinois native made one appearance last week, allowing just 2 hits in seven innings of shutout baseball at Pfitzner Stadium against the Potomac Nationals...

TEN OR MORE: The Cats had gone 37 games without a double-digit run total prior to scoring 13 runs last night...It was the longest such streak by the team since 2001...

ON THE D.L.: RHP Felipe Garcia (arm) has been inactive since 6/15...RHP Clayton Hamilton (oblique) has not appeared since 6/14...RHP Ramon Linares was placed on the Disabled List on 7/17..

TONIGHT'S OPPONENT: Gary Galvez, 22, is a 6-2, 200-pound right-hander signed by Boston as a free agent in 2003. The Cuban native went 10-4 with a 3.35 ERA in 31 outings (126.1 ip, 118 h, 64 r, 47 er, 40 bb, 87 k) for Greenville (A, SAL). Interestingly, he went 5-0 with a 2.37 ERA as a reliever as opposed to 5-4 with a 3.66 ERA in 18 starts. He combined with Jesus Delgado and Kyle Jackson on a rare no-hitter loss against Savannah on May 19th of last season. Galvez, the ace of Cuba's national team before he defected from Cuba in August of 2002, was pursued by a number of teams before signing with Boston as an 18-year old. According to Boston General Manager Theo Epstein, he would have been a first round selection if was eligible for the amateur draft.
