Frederick Keys News Release
FREDERICK, MD - Giving up seven runs in the first inning, the Keys were blown out at home, losing 13-0 to the Winston-Salem Dash.
Starting pitcher Justin Moore, making his first start since the 2010 season, got off to a rocky start, giving up seven hits in the opening inning which led to seven runs crossing the plate. The Dash batted around in the inning, as all but two of the eleven batters Moore faced did not reach base. Up big after the first, the Dash were able to go into cruise control and pick up their second win of the year and move to 2-3 on the year. The Keys fall to 3-2.
The first seven batters in the inning reached base, five of them via singles. Of the seven hits given up that inning, only one went for extra bases, but the damage was still deep. Before the Keys could take an at-bat, they found themselves down 7-0.
Offensively, the Keys weren't much better, registering only three hits, the last of which came in the fourth inning.
Moore is charged with the loss after giving up eight earned through three innings of work. Matt Heidenreich, the starter for Winston-Salem, gets the win after giving up just three hits and no runs through five innings.
Already up 7-0 entering the third, the Dash put two more runs on the board and got another in the fourth when Dan Black hit a solo homerun to put the Dash into double-digits, up 10-0.
From there, the chances of a comeback were remote as the Keys ultimately lost big 13-0.
The Keys have a chance to win the series by taking the rubber match tomorrow at 7:00 PM. RHP Kyle Simon (0-0, 8.10 ERA) is expected to take the mound for the Keys and he'll face RHP Jake Petricka (0-1, 6.75 ERA).
Coverage starts at 6:40 PM on 1450 AM The Source and online at wthu.com.
