Keys and Thunder Tie at 5, Brodie Cooper-Vassalakis Lasts Five Innings

Trenton, NJ - The Frederick Keys and Trenton Thunder finished Sunday's seven inning game in a 5-5 tie. It is the third tie of the Keys season and second with Trenton.

Frederick opened the scoring in the 1st inning as Haven Mangrum got on base to lead the game off. Mangrum advanced to third on a single by Jorel Ortega. Mangrum scored on a ground out by Jake Plastiak to give the Keys a 1-0 lead.

In the 2nd inning, Frederick brought Nick Hernandez to score on a sacrifice fly to take a 2-0 lead.

Trenton scored a run in the 3rd inning, the only run that Brodie Cooper-Vassalakis gave up. Vassalakis threw five innings and allowed just one run on three hits. The run came home to score on a sacrifice fly hit by Will Spears.

The Keys remained with a 2-1 lead until the 6th inning. Left hander Thomas Spinelli got two quick outs as Luis Vargas came up to the plate. Vargas launched a 460 foot home run to centerfield, the second longest MLB Draft League home run of the season, to tie the game 2-2.

In the 7th inning Gregory Ozuna led off the rally for the Keys with a single. Aaron Straker advanced Ozuna to third with a double to right field. Kevin Saenz scored Ozuna with the Keys second sacrifice fly of the game. Mangrum with his second single of the day brought Straker home to make it a 4-2 game. With a runner at first, Jerry Thomas singled to move Mangrum to third. Mangrum scored on a sacrifice fly hit by Ortega. The Keys took a 5-2 lead to the bottom of the 7th.

LJ Diaz came in to pitch the final inning of the game. The first two batters of the inning reached base. Nathaniel Butterworth brought both runners home to score on a double to right field. The double made it a 5-4 game. Amir Wright came up with one out in the inning and double home the tying run to tie the game 5-5. Tyler Laux came in and got the final two outs of the game.
