September 8, 2010 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Everett AquaSox News Release
EVERETT, Wash. - Everett AquaSox All-Star third baseman Kevin Mailloux has been promoted to the Single-A Clinton LumberKings, as announced by the Seattle Mariners Wednesday morning.
Mailloux will join the LumberKings as the team competes in the Midwest League West Division Quarterfinals against the Cedar Rapids Kernels. Game 1 of the three-game series begins Wednesday night in Clinton.
The AquaSox will be without Mailloux as they compete in the Northwest League Championship series against the Spokane Indians, beginning with Game 1 Thursday night in Spokane. The Sox won the Western Division pennant Tuesday night with a victory over the Vancouver Canadians, winning the best of three series 2-0.
Mailloux has been a major reason for the Frogs' success this season, hitting .296 and finishing the regular season with league highs in home runs (15), total bases (144), runs scored (63), extra-base hits (37) and slugging percentage (.576). He was named NWL Player of the Week for the period of Aug. 9-15 and selected to the 2010 NWL All-Star Team as the league's best third baseman.
The Mariners drafted Mailloux in the 45th round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft out of Canisius College in New York. He began his professional career with the Peoria Mariners, hitting .311 with 37 RBI in 46 games and was to the 2009 Arizona League All-Star Team as a second baseman. Mailloux was transferred to Everett for the final four games of the 2009 season.
Mailloux joins nine other 2010 AquaSox on the LumberKings roster. Pitchers Jonathan Arias, Jason Markovitz, Fray Martinez, Yoervis Medina, Stephen Pryor, Forrest Snow and Tom Wilhelmsen, along with infielder Mickey Wiswall and outfielder Ryan Royster, have all been called up to Clinton after success with the Sox. Pitcher Ogui Diaz was also transferred to Single-A Advanced High Desert.
The AquaSox will take on the Spokane Indians, who defeated the Yakima Bears in Game 2 of the Eastern Division Finals 6-1 Tuesday night, in Game 1 of the Championship Series Thursday at 6:35 p.m. at Avista Stadium in Spokane.
Everett is scheduled to host Game 2 Saturday night at 7:05 at Everett Memorial Stadium. The Sox will also host Game 3, if necessary, on Sunday at 6:05 p.m. at Everett Memorial Stadium. The Frogs went 4-6 against the Indians during the regular season.
