Kernels Take Fourth Straight against Sky Carp
July 15, 2022 - Midwest League (MWL)
Beloit Sky Carp News Release
BELOIT-- For the tenth time in the last 13 games this season, the Beloit Sky Carp came up short in a battle with the Cedar Rapids Kernels.
Friday night's tilt at ABC Supply Stadium was a pitcher's duel for the majority of the contest before the Kernels pulled away late for a 4-2 win.
A terrific crowd of 2,056 enjoyed Defenders of the Diamon Night, with appearances from the Black Panther and your favorite neighborhood spidey! Following the game, a fantastic fireworks show ensured that the fans went home happy, regardless of the outcome on the diamond.
Both teams scored a pair of runs in the first inning, with Will Banfield hitting a sacrifice fly and Davis Bradshaw legging out an infield single to drive in another run to tie the score.
The count remained deadlocked all the way until the top of the eighth inning, when Cedar Rapids first baseman Aaron Sabato socked a home run to give the Kernels the lead for good. They would go on to add an insurance run in the ninth inning.
Dax Fulton allowed two runs (one earned) in 5 2-3 innings of work for Beloit.
The Sky Carp and Kernels will meet again Saturday at 6:35 p.m. The first 750 fans will receive a fanny pack courtesy of Kwik Trip. Fans are encouraged to bring in a non-perishable food item, preferably cereal, to the game to benefit those in need locally. The Sky Carp are partnering with Alliant Energy on the project.
The gates will open at 5:30. Visit skycarp.com for tickets
The Beloit Sky Carp are the High-A Affiliate of the Miami Marlins and play their games at ABC Supply Stadium -- the heart of the Riverbend District.
