Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
May 28, 2008 - The Cedar Rapids Kernels snapped a four game losing streak with a 5-3 win over the Peoria Chiefs on Wednesday night at O'Brien Field. After being held to 17 hits in the last three games, the Kernel offense came to life with 12 hits including a home run, triple and three RBI from Tyler Johnson.
The offensive outburst gave Kernels starter Robert Fish (3-2) the run support he would need to get the win. Fish allowed two runs on five hits, walked two and struck out six over five innings. Eddie McKiernan and Brian Chambers combined to allow a run on three hits and strike out two and Ryan Brasier pitched a perfect ninth for his eighth save of the season.
Efren Navarro was 2 for 4 with a double and RBI and Andrew Romine was 2 for 3 with an RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base, his league high 21st steal of the season. Hector Estrella and Jeremy Moore added two hits apiece.
Peoria starter Zach Ashwood (0-6) gave up three runs on seven hits over four innings and took the loss.
Game two is Thursday night at 6:30 pm from O'Brien Field in Peoria.
