Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

GENEVA, IL - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers outhit the Kane County Cougars 9-3 on Wednesday at Elfstrom Stadium. But, the Rattlers stranded 11 runners and Kane Count scored three runs in the first inning for a 3-1 victory. Danny Hamblin's two run triple in the first inning was enough for Kane County to wreck a decent start by Wisconsin pitcher Nathan Adcock.

Wisconsin (21-27) had a chance early in the game. They loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the first inning, but could not cash in on the opportunity against Cougar starter Scott Hodsdon.

On the other hand, the Cougars (31-20) took advantage of every opportunity given to them in the bottom of the first. Shane Keough singled with one out. Larry Cobb's tailor made double play ball got by third baseman Alex Liddi for an error. Hamblin followed with a two run triple into the left field corner.

Then, with the infield pulled in, Corey Brown sent a grounder to shortstop Juan Diaz. Diaz threw a strike to the plate, but Hamblin jarred the ball loose from the glove of catcher Blake Ochoa to score the third run of the inning.

The Rattlers got on the board against Hodsdon in the top of the fourth inning. A two-out RBI single by Ocha drove in Liddi.

Wisconsin kept putting runners on base against Hodsdon, but the Cougar starter wouldn't crack again. He did need help from Scott Deal to get out of another bases loaded jam in the sixth inning. The final line on Hodsdon was 5-2/3 innings, nine hits, one run, two walks, and three strikeouts.

Adcock settled in after the first inning. He allowed just one more hit on the night and didn't allow another Cougar run over his next six innings. Adcock's line was seven innings, three runs (one earned), three walks, and eight strikeouts.

But, it wasn't enough. Deal pitched 2-1/3 innings of scoreless relief and turned the ball over the Cougar closer Justin Friend.

The Rattlers rallied in the bottom of the ninth to beat Friend in a game in Grand Chute on May 17. It was a different story on Wednesday night in Geneva. Friend pitched a perfect ninth for his fifth save.

Game two of the series is Thursday night. Phillippe Aumont (2-3, 1.74) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Scott Mitchinson (4-1, 1.71) is set to go for the Cougars. Game time is 6:00pm.
