Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, IL - Scott Hodsdon picked up his third win with 5 2/3 innings of solid work, and Danny Hamblin smoked a two-run triple and scored once to lead the Kane County Cougars past the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, 3-1, Wednesday night in front of 5,089 at Elfstrom Stadium. The Cougars had only three hits offensively, but they never relinquished their early lead and received stellar pitching from Hodsdon and relievers Scott Deal and Justin Friend. Hamblin's two-run triple came off Nathan Adcock (1-4) in the bottom of the first inning and scored Shane Keough and Larry Cobb. Then Hamblin made it 3-0 by dislodging the ball from catcher Blake Ochoa during a collision at the plate on Corey Brown's ensuing grounder. Hodsdon (3-4) never had a 1-2-3 inning but battled his way to victory, and he's now 3-0 with a 1.74 ERA in his last five outings. The right-hander scattered nine hits, walked two and struck out three over 5 2/3 frames. Deal pitched 2 1/3 no-hit relief innings in his stead, and Friend worked a perfect ninth for his fifth save. The Cougars (31-20) and Timber Rattlers (21-27) play again Thursday night at 6 CT when Scott Mitchinson (4-1, 1.71) squares off against Phillippe Aumont (2-3, 1.74).
